INTRODUCING Justice TIPs

The app that makes it easy for trauma survivors to rate all professionals on their Trauma Informed Practices (TIPs!).

NOTE: You can access the app from the button above. For best results, open in Google Chrome. Don’t forget to download app, or add it to your home screen, after you get to the Welcome screen.

The app can be downloaded, it is not available through Apple or Google stores. Justice TIPs is a web-based app. When the button is clicked on your screen a series of three dots will appear (usually upper right corner). Tapping those dots will open a drop-menu that includes some version of “download app” or “add app to home screen”.

ABOUT Justice TIPs

For 25 years, Mother Justice heard the same message from trauma survivors and protective parents:

AND

After years of dreaming, designing and development, there is finally a solution for both!

Justice TIPs helps survivors rate EVERY PROFESSIONAL they have gone to for help because of abuse: Judges! Attorneys! GALs! Evaluators! Counselors! Reunification Specialists! Parenting Coordinators! Mediators! Educators! Clergy! Law Enforcement! Social Workers! Welfare Workers! First Responders! Medical Providers! Victim Advocates! Batterer Intervention!

Professionals or programs are rated, based on how RESPONSIVE they were to a victim’s disclosure of abuse, or concerns for their family’s safety.

Mother Justice’s Trauma Informed Practices (TIPs)

Trauma-responsive Professionals will:

Listen to adult or child victims, without blame or judgment.

Believe disclosures of abuse, and validate the victimized person’s concerns for safety and wellbeing.

Recognize the abuser as the source of danger to, or trauma reactions/coping responses of, the adult or child victims; they will understand the impact that trauma has physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, etc., on adult and child victims.

Plan for safety and wellbeing of individual victims and their family members out in the community, in their homes — and even while meeting or working with them.

Help eliminate barriers to victim safety — or at least not ADD barriers.

Be trustworthy and protective of victim disclosures at all times; discuss what will or could happen with confidential information that is disclosed, BEFORE disclosures are made.

Be upfront about mandated reporting requirements, and realistic about systemic failures in abuser accountability; help adult victims safety plan for a poor system response.

Accurately reflect back to victims understanding of their challenges to safety and wellbeing, and be honest about the help they can offer.

Recognize victims’ expertise coming from their lived experiences with their abusers, and support their choices, whether or not they agree with victims’ decisions.

Connect victims to other, better or more appropriate help or support, if or when they are unable to meet the victims’ needs.

Demonstrate transparency and predictability in their work with victimized persons, and avoid triggering “surprises.”

Make victim SAFETY, INFORMATION and SUPPORT the ultimate goal of their professional intervention.

Mother Justice Network | Sample Letter | For Professionals

DOES THE PROFESSIONAL DEMONSTRATE these Trauma-Informed Practices (ABOVE) when working with adult victims and their families?

Affirmative responses to the above TIPs determine each professional’s rating. For higher ratings, professionals must demonstrate victim-centered practices that support a victimized person’s right to safety and justice — not ignore, enable, encourage or embolden an abuser to further abuse. “Neutrality” is not a viable response to families living domestic abuse, counter-parenting and other forms of violence — the professional is either against abuse (with practices that demonstrate that commitment), or they support continued victimization of abuse victims. There is no in-between.

This app can help protective parents find professionals that help, and help them avoid those that have a history or pattern of failing targets of abusers.

FOR SAFETY, ALL RATINGS ARE ANONYMOUS. If the professional scores highly, Mother Justice Network can send them a letter (see example) to thank them for their trauma-informed practices.

If the professional scores low, indicating they would benefit from trauma-informed training, a letter can be sent by Mother Justice Network, listing the training opportunities available to that professional or their employer through MJN.

PROCEEDS FROM THIS APP HELP FUND MOTHER JUSTICE NETWORK, whose mission is to ensure that Protective Parents, adult victims of family violence who have children in common with their abuser, have access to helpful resources that enhance the safety and well-being of their family — until every Mother, and every Child, is SAFE at HOME. Together.

How can I use this app?

This app has been created to help members of Mother Justice Network rate, and ultimately connect to, trauma-responsive professionals of all kinds.

If approved as an MJN Member, you will have access to all of the functions of this app! Your ratings will help build a database of professionals who are responsive — or not — to the needs of families targeted by abusive partners and parents. Imagine going to court, forewarned with knowledge about how a judge acts towards victims of domestic violence? Or knowing whether or not your child’s therapist really understands how trauma impacts children? Or if your local police department is helpful in enforcing restraining orders? Once the database grows, you will be able to review the ratings of professionals from around the country — and even around the world.
